Puttur: Malathi Kumari, a resident of Puttur, is grappling with the loss of her only source of income — her milk booth — which was demolished by the city municipal authorities in December 2024.
Malathi, who had been running the booth legally since March 30, 2004, with an official license, was informed that the booth would be removed following public complaints. The booth had been set up with financial assistance from the late Dr. V.S. Acharya’s wife. Over the years, Malathi complied with all municipal regulations, including relocating the booth in 2008 for road-widening.
However, in 2009, following a complaint by a councilor, the booth was partially demolished. Despite lacking approval to disconnect her power supply, the authorities removed the booth’s roof and seized all items. In December 2024, after receiving a second notice, the authorities completely demolished the booth, leaving Malathi without her livelihood.
Living alone in a rented house with her two dogs, Malathi is unmarried and has no family to turn to. The milk booth was her sole means of support.
Now, Malathi is seeking justice and requesting an alternative location for a new booth, along with compensation for the financial loss she has suffered.
