SHIVAMOGGA: A leisurely trip to Abbi waterfall near Yadur in Hosanagara taluk turned tragic for a group of tourists from Bengaluru when a 26-year-old man slipped and drowned while attempting to take a selfie on Monday. The victim, identified as Vinod from Ballari, lost his balance and fell into the water while trying to capture a memorable moment at the picturesque waterfall.

Vinod was part of a group of 12 tourists who had ventured to the popular tourist spot from Bengaluru. The incident occurred suddenly, leaving his companions in shock and distress. Local authorities, including police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel, responded promptly to the emergency call and initiated a search and rescue operation.

The rugged terrain and swiftly flowing water posed challenges during the rescue efforts. Despite the immediate response, Vinod could not be rescued in time, and his body was recovered from the water later that day.

A case has been registered at the Town police station regarding the unfortunate incident, highlighting the dangers associated with adventurous activities near waterfalls. Tourists are often reminded to exercise caution and prioritize safety while visiting such natural attractions.
