Udupi: In a remarkable display of creativity and compassion, a group of youths from Kapu, led by Sachin Shetty, raised ₹14.33 lakh for the Hosa Belaku Orphanage in Karkala taluk. The fundraising effort took place during Ashtami, with the team travelling through Udupi and Mangalore dressed as clowns to collect donations.
The team, which included Chetan, Nitesh, Sudeep, and Abhishek, employed a unique approach by using the orphanage’s QR code for donations during their tour. This method facilitated direct contributions to the orphanage, ensuring transparency and ease of giving.
The expenses for the costumes were covered by their sponsor, and all the cash donations collected were handed over to Tanula Tarun, the Head of Hosa Belaku Orphanage, on Wednesday.
Tanula Tarun expressed gratitude for the initiative, stating, “We have been running the ashram for eleven years, serving around 180 people who are away from their families. Sachin and his team visited us, witnessed the activities and challenges faced by the ashram residents, and decided to support us by collecting funds in disguise.”
The success of this inventive fundraising campaign underscores the impact of creative approaches to charitable giving and the power of community involvement in supporting those in need.
