Mysuru: Following the gang rape of an MBA student in Chamundi Hills, people’s demand for a separate Police station has increased.
There are three police stations within the limits. Alanahalli and Krishnaraja Police Stations are under the jurisdiction of the City Police Commissionerate, whereas Mysuru South Police Station is under the jurisdiction of the District Superintendent of Police. As there are multiple police heads, the police stations lack coordination. Despite the fact that there is a Police outpost at Chamundi Hills, the security is insufficient.
More than 3000 people live in the villages of Tavarekatte and Utthanalli, which are located on the foothills of the hills. The temples of Mahabaleshwara, Chamundeshwari, Narayana Swamy, and the Big Bull Statue, as well as JSS Ayurvedic college, hospitals and colleges, Ashram, and JSS math, are all located beside hills.
Thousands of tourists from all across the country, as well as devotees and hundreds of shop owners, visit Chamundi Hills on a regular basis.
Speaking to News Karnataka, Ramachandra, a local resident said, “Young couples want to spend their evenings at Lalitadripura Hillock. Miscreants are bothering young couples in the night. However, the majority of cases go unnoticed. The incidents are only reported if there have been injuries. Otherwise, nothing has happened. He said 75 percent of the Chamundi hills is forest. Many a times decomposed bodies have been found, but it is difficult to identify whether it is suicide or murder.”
Auto-driver Nasir told that last week three miscreants snatched an autorickshaw from driver after assaulting him at outskirts of Uttanahalli. He said it is difficult to ride even during day. He said if the Police open a police station at Chamundi hills the situation would improve which ensures more security and less crimes.
It is said that Police increase patrol whenever crimes happen and then they neglect. The Chamundeshwari temple have thousands of devotees in and outside the State. The State Government should take steps to ensure the safety of devotees before more crimes could happen.
