Karnataka’s SSLC Exam Update: New Guidelines, Security Measures, and More
The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has reintroduced a critical policy for the SSLC exams this year, mandating a minimum of 35% marks for students to pass. This marks a return to the pre-COVID-19 system, following a temporary reduction to 25% last year to aid struggling students.
In 2024, the board had adjusted the pass criteria due to the significant number of failures, introducing normalisation and grace marks to boost student success. However, Minister for School Education and Literacy, Madhu Bangarappa, clarified that this year, there will be no reduction in qualifying marks or grace marks. He emphasized the necessity for students to score 35% in every subject to pass.
The SSLC annual exams will take place from March 21 to April 4, with 8,96,447 students registered across 15,881 schools statewide. Notably, the number of students enrolled has increased compared to last year. The exams will be conducted across 2,818 centres, with extensive surveillance measures like webcasting to prevent malpractices.
Security measures, including police deployment, are in place to ensure smooth conduct. The Education Act will be enforced against any exam irregularities, and students must adhere to dress codes and guidelines issued by educational institutions. A 20-point initiative is also being implemented to improve overall exam results.
For II PU students, exams are scheduled from March 1 to 20, with 7,13,862 students registered. Additionally, AI-based learning might soon be introduced, with a request to improve teacher recruitment and school infrastructure in the upcoming Budget.
