Karwar: With two COVID-19 cases confirmed in Bhatkal taluk of Uttara Kannada, the district administration has announced medical emergency in the taluk.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar said that the medical emergency has been declared in Bhatkal Town Municipal Council, Jali Patan Panchayath, Shirali Gram Panchayath, Heble Gram Panchayath, Mavinkurve Gram Panchayath, Mundalli Gram Panchayath, Yalvadikavoor Gram Panchayath and Mutalli Gram Panchayath with immediate effect until further orders.
All the shops including the essentials like food, vegetables and medical stores will be closed.
The administration has informed that supply of medicines will be arranged for the people if they contact the helpline number 104 for assistance.
Taking note of the fact that lots of families have members who have returned from foreign countries and that many are shying away from revealing details of their travel history and health condition, the district administration has decided to identify houses and send medical personnel on door-to-door visit.
The DC has also said that stern action will be initiated against those who fail to adhere to lockdown rules.
Earlier, the district adminisration had imposd a complete lockdown on the sub-division considering the fact that 40 per cent of the population in Bhatkal sub-division has foreign travel history.
