Karwar: Over 70 percent of fishermen have stopped fishing off the coast of Karwar in Uttara Kannada district as a result of an acute shortage of fish. Despite this, fish of whooping sizes found themselves caught in the trap of a mechanized fishing boat on Wednesday, February 19.
After laying a trap on the previous night, the owner of the fishing boat Abbanas returned on Wednesday morning to find the staggering sizes of his catch.
A total of four fish, each weighing between 150 to 180 kgs, were caught in the trap. When held up, the fish nearly come up to the average height of a man. When Abbanas brought the catch ashore, people quickly surrounded him to view the large fish.
Due to a lack of fish, most of the boats have anchored themselves at the Baitakhola Harbour in the town. A few boats are carrying out fishing activities in the proximity of the harbour itself.
