Karwar: Locals have complained that the Government Model Higher Primary School in Mundgod taluk, Karwar, has failed to provide students with nutritious and frequent lunches under the mid-day meals programme.
Recently, high school students also staged a protest against the irregular and inadequate meals being provided by the school authorities.
“The school is not providing hot and adequate amounts of food as stated in the Aksharada Soha Yojana guidelines,” alleged the students who have received support from various educationalists as well.
The students further complained, “The younger elementary school children are served food before noon and we are served at the end. By that time, there is very little rice remaining and the leftover sambar is mixed with pepper and salt before giving it to us.”
“When we ask for more (rice), they say that the fifth, sixth, and seventh-grade students finished it. We do not even get proper breakfast and ‘pulav’ which is served on Saturdays,” they added.
Commenting on the issue, Block Education Officer (BEO) DM Basavaraj said that the matter has come to his notice and that the necessary action will be taken soon.
