Koppal Tourist Assault Case: Third Accused Arrested
Karnataka Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi announced on Sunday that the third suspect in the Koppal tourist rape case had been apprehended. The crime, which took place on March 6 near Hampi, involved the assault and gang-rape of two women, including a 27-year-old Israeli tourist.
According to the police, the attack occurred while the victims were stargazing along the Tungabhadra canal. Three men approached them under the pretext of seeking directions to a petrol station. When the tourists could not assist, the suspects turned violent, robbed them, and pushed them into the canal. While three individuals managed to escape, one, Bibash from Odisha, went missing. His body was later recovered.
Minister Tangadagi confirmed that two suspects had been arrested on March 8, while the third, who had fled to Tamil Nadu, was nabbed on Sunday. He assured that security at tourist hotspots would be strengthened to prevent such heinous crimes.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara had earlier condemned the incident and stated that the government is taking strict action. Authorities are now working to ensure swift justice for the victims.
