Koppal’s digital education initiative empowers teachers and students
Mohammed Ziauddeen, district officer of the American India Foundation’s (AIF) Digital Equalizer (DE) programme, highlights how coding can significantly enhance STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education. In Koppal, a new initiative is introducing government school teachers to digital technologies, aiming to improve the quality of education in science, mathematics, and social science.
The Digital Equalizer programme focuses on preparing both students and teachers for the digital future, providing training in coding, computational thinking, and financial literacy. By integrating techno-pedagogy, the initiative aims to increase student participation and equip them with essential skills for successful careers in STEM fields.
School facilitators, including Shivappa Chavhan, Prashanth Naveen, Arun Kumar, Savitha, and Indira Asundi, conduct daily training sessions for maths and science teachers at two schools until June next year. Their aim is to teach coding-based methods that align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4), which promotes quality education.
A two-day orientation for headmasters and principals also took place, attended by 250 school leaders. The session covered techno-pedagogy, career development, and 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration, and financial literacy. District officials and AIF faculty are committed to modernising Koppal’s education system to meet the digital age’s demands, with participating teachers praising the initiative for transforming teaching and learning.
