KSRTC to Launch Longest Daily Bus Services from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad and Puri
Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is set to introduce its longest daily bus routes, connecting Bengaluru with Ahmedabad and Puri, both approximately 1,500 kilometers from the Karnataka capital. This development marks a significant expansion from KSRTC’s current longest routes, Bengaluru-Mumbai and Bengaluru-Shirdi, each covering around 1,000 kilometers.
Addressing Growing Demand
KSRTC Managing Director V. Anbukumar highlighted the strong demand for long-distance bus services from Bengaluru. “There is strong demand for bus services from Bengaluru to far-off places. The KSRTC has the largest fleet of Volvo buses and has a proven track record. We want to explore new routes,” Anbukumar told Deccan Herald.
New Destinations and Approval Process
While private operators already offer services from Bengaluru to destinations like Ahmedabad, Indore, Bhopal, Jaipur, Jaitaran, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer, there is currently no direct bus service to Puri, a well-known pilgrimage site in Odisha. To initiate these new routes, KSRTC must obtain approvals from the Road Transport Corporations (RTCs) of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. Anbukumar mentioned that discussions with these RTCs are in advanced stages and expressed optimism about a positive outcome.
Service Details
Each new route will operate with two air-conditioned sleeper buses—one for the outbound journey and one for the return trip. Despite being long-distance services, these buses will not have toilet facilities. The fare for these journeys is expected to be around ₹2,500, with an estimated travel time of 27 to 28 hours.
This move by KSRTC aims to cater to the increasing demand for comfortable and reliable long-distance travel options, potentially setting a new standard for public transportation in the region.
