Land Grab Scandal Rocks Kolar: Fake Documents, Crores Lost, Officials Under Fire
A massive land scandal has come to light in Kolar, where fraudulent documents, forged seals, and bogus accounts have enabled private individuals to illegally acquire and sell Municipal Council properties worth crores of rupees.
According to Municipal Council member Praveen Gowda, who filed a formal complaint against Commissioner Prasad, rampant irregularities have gone unchecked due to the negligence of civic officials. In a shocking case, 1.19 acres in Survey No. 29 of Khadripur village, originally purchased for housing the homeless, was illegally developed and sold by private entities under forged General Power of Attorney documents.
The land, initially acquired under a Governor’s directive, was meant for a municipal housing scheme, but poor record-keeping and unauthorized e-accounting entries led to its misuse. Fraudsters even created false clearance documents, misleading authorities into approving housing projects on disputed public land.
Notably, signatures of former officials, including then in-charge commissioner Ambika and the Planning Authority Director, were allegedly forged to facilitate the illegal transfers. Individuals like Ejaz Pasha are reportedly involved in developing and selling this land under fake ownership claims.
Alarmed by the scale of the scam, officials have now alerted the Sub-Registrar’s office to block further transactions and are preparing to file a police complaint. Council President Lakshmidevamma and Commissioner Prasad are also meeting with Kolar Tahsildar Nayan to retrieve original records and prevent more illegal registrations.
