Leopard Caught in Mulki Home’s Kitchen, Released After Rescue
In a dramatic encounter, forest officials successfully captured a leopard that wandered into the kitchen of a residence in Akkasaligara Keri, Mulki, during the early hours of Sunday.
Residents had previously reported sightings of a leopard in the area, prompting forest officials to place traps across Mulki. Deputy RFO Manjunath Ganiga revealed that a cage was strategically placed nearly a kilometer away from the house, following local reports of leopard movements.
Around 10 p.m., the leopard entered the house and slipped into the kitchen. Acting swiftly, the family locked the kitchen door and informed the forest department. A team, led by RFO Kiran Kumar, along with deputy RFOs Nagesh Billava and Manjunath Ganiga, responded promptly. Using a cage and net, they successfully trapped the leopard at approximately 2:45 a.m.
After conducting a medical examination, the leopard was released safely back into its natural habitat. Locals, however, believe there could be more leopards in the area, with suspicions of at least three roaming nearby.
The swift and coordinated operation involved several forest department personnel, including Chandrashekar and Shankar.
