Most countries have shut down their borders to prevent the spread of coronavirus. But as we learn to cope and fight with this danger, some nations begin to open up. Follow the post to know how to cross India’s borders and travel safely when it is open for tourists.

Do I Need a Visa to Enter?

There are only 3 countries that have visa abolition agreements with India: Bhutan, Nepal, and the Maldives. It means that these nations can cross the Indian border without travel documents. Travellers from other countries must apply for and get a visa to be allowed into the country.

How to Apply

First of all, the applicant must prepare a list of documents:

  • An international passport with two blank pages. Take a look at the validity dates, there must be at least 6 months left
  • An application, filled in without any mistakes. You must sign in two places (under the photo and at the end)
  • A 2×2 inch color photo
  • A copy of your domestic passport
  • Plane tickets scans and hotel reservation

Sometimes, applicants need to submit additional documents. Check this information on the Indian Bureau of Immigration website.

Then, you have 2 options. Book an appointment with the Embassy to submit the application. You’ll be given a number to check the status of your claim. Otherwise you can apply online and get an e-Visa. It’s a travel authorization that allows you to stay in the country for 30 days. Print it and take it along wherever you go.

Pay Attention to the Photo Format

It would be frustrating to get a rejection because of the wrong photo format. Look at the Indian visa photo specifications to know which images are accepted. Taking photos with help from a professional studio is expensive. Editing them by yourself may result in errors that can cost you your approval.

Using online services is much better for such purposes. All you need is a selfie, which you can take yourself or ask someone to help. Upload the picture to the editing tool and download the results in a few moments. The service guarantees your photo will 100% meet the specifications .

Rules for Travelers

Judging by the other countries’ experience, India will start to open borders to only fully vaccinated foreigners. Travelers will have to show a vaccination certificate, and a PCR test carried out at least 3 days before departure. People with infection symptoms will be tested for coronavirus and transferred to a medical facility for treatment.

India Post COVID-19: Things to Take Along

A Bunch of Masks

This protection is an effective tool to slow down contamination. N-95 masks are used worldwide and filter 95% of particles. You must wear one when you enter public places. Using the same mask several times is dangerous. Remember to change them regularly.

Several Pairs of Gloves

As we all often touch our face without noticing it, it’s better to protect our hands with gloves. It’s almost impossible to wear them a second time. They get wet, so it’s easier to dispose of them. This is why taking several pairs with you is a must.

Thermometer

You can catch the virus at any time. It’s better to monitor your body temperature and start taking measures before it’s too late.

Sanitizer

You can buy one at a pharmacy or any supermarket. Make sure it has at least 60% of alcohol or more. Such concentration kills coronavirus and helps you avoid getting it to the mucous membranes.

Power Bank

You’ll need to use your devices to search information, order pizza, or taxi. Bring an additional power source to avoid losing access to the Internet.

Preventive Measures

The following rules apply to any type of viruses. Follow them to prevent getting sick during your trip to India:

  • Frequently wash your hands and use a hand sanitizer
  • Do not come closer that 1,5 meters to other people, keep your distance
  • Keep your mask on in public places
  • Wash your groceries after buying them
  • Wipe your phone with a sanitizer as you’ll use it often in public

When India opens its borders, apply for a visa if you want to explore this colorful destination. Do it several weeks before the trip to give yourself enough time for preparation. Once you’re in the country, stay safe by following the tips mentioned above.
