Puttur: Minister of State for Fisheries, Ports, and Inland Transport Department S. Araga said, “The drilling of borewells in large numbers could likely be the reason for the repeated tremors in Sullia and Madikeri, say experts.
Addressing mediapersons on Saturday July 3, he explained that however, the tremors were mild. “The borewell drilling process has now reached 1000 metres, while it was only upto 200 meters, earlier. This drastic increase in borewell drilling though necessary needs to be undertaken only if needed,” he added.
Further, he informed that the study report by experts, who are already looking into the pattern of earthquakes occurred in the region will be submitted to the State as well as Centre.
