LPG Cylinder Price Rises by ₹50; Ujjwala Users to Pay ₹553 from April 8
New Delhi: In a move affecting all households, the price of domestic LPG cylinders has gone up by ₹50, as announced by Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday. The hike applies uniformly to both subsidised and non-subsidised consumers.
Following the revision, Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries—those who received free LPG connections under the government scheme—will now pay ₹553 for a standard 14.2-kg cylinder, up from the earlier price of ₹503 in Delhi. For regular consumers, the price has increased to ₹853 per cylinder.
These new rates, which differ slightly across states due to local tax variations, mark the first upward revision since March 2024, when the price was reduced by ₹100.
Interestingly, this increase comes just days after the price of commercial LPG cylinders was slashed by ₹41, offering some respite to hotels, restaurants, and businesses that depend on them for daily operations.
In a related development, the central government has also announced a hike in excise duties on petrol and diesel. As per an official notification, the excise on petrol has been raised to ₹13 per litre, and that on diesel to ₹10 per litre. These changes will take effect on April 8, 2025.
However, the additional cost will not be transferred to end-users. The oil marketing companies will absorb the impact, balancing it against the drop in global crude oil prices, which had otherwise warranted a cut in retail fuel prices.
