Shivamogga: Dead bat pups found near Thirthahalli have caused panic among the locals. However, the department of health officials have allayed the fear.

As per sources, a few trees that were inhabited by the bats were chopped off couple of days ago near Thirthahalli.

Due to this 15 bats were found dead, out of which 10 were the young ones. As soon as the news spread, the loccals started fearing a possibility of an outbreak of bird flu or some other infection.

But, the Health Department has said that bats are not birds and death of the bats, in this case will not cause any outbreak of disease.

“The bats have died due felling of trees. They have not died due to any infection. Hence, general public need not worry,” said Dr Sadashiva of Veterinary Department, who further confirmed that suitable chemicles have been sprayed at the spot where the bats were found dead for sanitisation purpose.

The district is already reeling under fear of Kyasanur Forest Disease.
