Madikeri: The Sri Omkareshwara Temple has answered the devotees’ pleas to stop the “skin show” by banning visitors from wearing western outfits inside the temple.

The temple administration has decided to implement a dress code by putting up a huge banner which depicts the same. A meeting in this regard is expected to be chaired in the temple on February 25, where the dress code policy will be finalized.

According to sources, Kodagu, a prime tourist destination, witnessed people wearing the kind of western outfits that are normally worn at picnics in the district. Several times, the locals and the temple administration have observed that tourists enter the temple premises with the same outfits. Hence, the temple administration has decided to ban western wear inside the temple.

Instead of western outfits, the devotees and tourists will be expected to wear dhotis. Interestingly, the temple administration itself has decided to give away dhotis to the people who enter the temple premises with western outfits.

The heads of the temple said that the devotees believe the Omkareshwara Temple to be as pure as the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

Although this rule was implemented in the Bhagamandala Talacauvery pilgrimage area, it was not followed strictly.
