Madikeri: In order to prevent casualties in the coming monsoon season, the Kodagu District Police have created four special rescue teams, here on Monday, May 13. The precautionary measures are being taken, keeping in mind the previous year’s floods.

Each team comprises 15 specially trained personnel, who will involve in human as well as animal rescue operations if the same flood-like situation arises.

The four teams include such police staff who had voluntarily participated in the rescue operations during the 2018 Kodagu floods.

These teams are trained by experts from Srushti Adventures, a team from Bengaluru.

Under Srushti’s guidance, three rescue teams and one District Armed Reserve (DAR) has been formed.

The teams are specially trained in order to rescue people and animals during landslides and other natural disasters and evacuate people to safe zones.

The second phase training is on in Udayagiri, where in the 2018 floods one senior citizen had lost his life.

The teams were given necessary information and instructions in the District Police Grounds.

Srushti Adventures trainers Santhosh, Akshitha and Avagha, Geologist from RTGO and Environment Consultancy, Reni Thomas were present.
