Mandya MLA raises concerns about ‘Covid-like’ virus in China
Mandya MLA Ravikumar Gowda (Ganiga) has expressed concern over a potential virus outbreak in China, likened to Covid-19. Addressing reporters on Friday, he stated that during his recent four-day visit, he observed nearly 80% of people wearing masks, even though mask mandates were not enforced.
“Sanitisers are available in public spaces, and body temperatures of children arriving by plane are being checked. This could indicate a new virus or simply a precautionary measure,” Gowda noted. He also highlighted similar mask usage during his transit through Hong Kong airport.
Despite these observations, the Directorate General of Health Services in India has reassured citizens that there is no immediate threat from any ‘Covid-like’ virus, such as the HMPV outbreak reported elsewhere.
The MLA’s remarks underline the importance of monitoring global health developments while maintaining preventive practices like wearing masks and ensuring hygiene.
