Mandya: In a tragic episode, a forest personnel lost his life in a misfiring at Kodenakoppa village of Kiruvalu hobli, here, on Thursday evening.
The deceased is Shivananjaiah (45).
It is said that the rogue elephants had entered the village on Thursday morning and caused a lot of loss. The forest officials had plunged into action and had managed to shun the elephants away, but by evening the herd of rogue elephants returned.
This time, the officials resorted to firing, but since dusk had fallen, one of the staff misfired and the bullet hit Shivananjaiah. He died on the spot.
Malavalli Rural police arrived at the spot and registered a case.
