Mangalore University to Issue Physical Marks Cards After Student Backlash
Mangalore University (MU) has decided to issue consolidated physical marks cards following widespread student discontent with the university’s digital marks cards. The decision came after intervention by Assembly Speaker UT Khader, who was approached by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Mangaluru constituency, led by President Sahil Manchila. Students, particularly those who studied at MU after the 2022-23 academic year, faced significant issues with the DigiLocker technology used for issuing digital marks cards. These digital documents were missing crucial details, such as concise marks, photographs, signatures, subject information, and project topics. Furthermore, these digital marksheets were often rejected by employers, especially those abroad, during employment verification, creating substantial inconvenience for graduates.
In response, UT Khader promptly engaged with the higher education minister and convened a meeting with senior officials from the higher education department, including Chief Secretary Srikar MS, State Nodal Officer Dr. Bhagyavan Mudigowda, and MU Registrar (Evaluation) H Devendrappa. Following government direction, MU is now considering issuing consolidated physical marks cards. Devendrappa confirmed that the final decision will be made after approval from the syndicate body. The student community has welcomed this move, appreciating MU for addressing their concerns.
