Mangaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar, on Friday, July 31, warned that the BJP would get a befitting reply from the people for its wrongdoings.

Addressing the reporters in Mangaluru on Friday, DKShi said that the BJP government is nothing but a ‘curse to the state’ as it has gobbled up huge sums of money in the name of curbing the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“The medical equipment purchase scam runs into over Rs 2,000 cr in the state. The documents clearly speak about this. Former chief minister Siddaramaiah and I have been asking for details of the same, but the government has no answer. If I have lied, put me behind bars. The government will have to answer us. The government that talks of transparency, should now come forward and make way for the Public Accounts Committee meeting,” he said, pressing for a probe into the issue.

DKShi said that it was because of the state government’s failure to handle the COVID situation that the migrant workers panicked and risked their lives to return to their native villages.

“If the government had made arrangements for their food and accommodation, the migrants would have stayed back in the state,” he said, adding that the ruling party called the Congress’ efforts to help the migrant workers ‘bogus’.

“The BJP neither knows ‘governance’ nor does it know ‘government’. It has failed to understand the pulse of the people,” he said.
