Mangaluru: Father Muller Hospital -Thumbay (FMH-T), a 100-bedded multi-speciality hospital has been rendering remarkable preventive and promotive health care at the doorsteps of the community with the vision of the Father Muller Institutions motto “HEAL and COMFORT”.

Presently, Father Muller Hospital-Thumbay has grown from a general hospital to a multi-speciality hospital with state-of-the-art facilities, during its seven years of existence, as of May 1, 2020 and this unique Covid-19 swab collection kiosk, along with Neph Plus-1 Protein Specific Analyser, launched on September 5, is an added feather to the cap of this growing hospital.

The Covid-19 swab collection kiosk for easy testing process was launched, at Fr Muller Hospital-Thumbay on Saturday, 5 September at 11.30 am, donated by Dr Kiran Shetty, the Medical Superintendent at Father Muller Hospital-Thumbay, in memory of his mother, Late Heera B Shetty, wife of Dr Bhasker Shetty.

Along with the Kiosk, the Neph Plus-1 Protein Specific Analyzer was also launched on the occasion. With this Kiosk, the doctors could avoid wearing PPE kit every time and take the swap with ease and safety.

This concept has been well appreciated by many and has been put to use by the hospital authorities, in many places. All you’ll have to do is stand in front of the glass counter from where the medical worker will collect your swab samples. The swab collection process will supposedly only take between three-five minutes and is entirely contactless. The samples will then be sent to the lab to be tested.

The inauguration and blessing of the Kiosk, and the Protein Specific Analyser was done by Fr Richard Coelho- the Director of Father Charitable Institutions, Mangaluru, along with Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo-the Administrator of FMH-T, in presence of Dr Kiran Shetty-the Medical Superintendent of FMH-T.

Following welcome address by Fr Sylvester Lobo, prayers were offered for the sick and the suffering, specially those suffering during this pandemic.

In his inaugural address, Fr Richard Coelho said, “During this pandemic, the world is at war with a deadly invisible enemy — a virus. Humankind is going through a new and unprecedented experience with the rapidly spreading Covid-19 pandemic. There is no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the face of human society. The Covid-19 storm will pass and mankind will survive, despite the loss of many lives. And, while celebrating Teachers Day, we should know that we are not only teachers but learners, where we should learn from the students”

Dr Kiran Shetty was presented with a memento by Fr Richard Coelho, for his generosity in donating the Kiosk. The vote of thanks was delivered by the programme compere Nisha Lobo, the Nursing Supervisor.
