Mangaluru: Former MLC, Ivan D’Souza urged the government to make Covid vaccine free for all and warned of a protest if the district administration failed to provide free vaccination to all in the district.
Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, June 22, D’Souza said, “We’ve seen hoardings and boards stating that everyone is entitled to a free vaccination. Private hospitals, on the other hand, charge up to Rs 1,000. MPs and MLAs should clarify whether the vaccination is for the rich or the poor.”
“District administration should take steps in providing free vaccination for all. Vaccination should not be sold for money as it is a life-saving drug. Each and everyone should get vaccinated free of cost. Trading should not be done in the name of vaccination,” said Ivan.
“The district administration failed to take effective measures during the lift of the lockdown. All of the shops should be permitted to stay open all day. The bus should also be allowed to travel on the road. However, the guidelines should be changed for weddings and funerals. The maximum number of people allowed at a wedding should be increased from 50 to 100. Even the compensation for Covid victim should be raised to Rs 5 lac,” said Ivan D Souza.
Congress leaders Shashidhar Hegde, Appi, Mohammed, and others were present.
