DK Police unearth child-trafficking network : Rescues infant

Mangaluru: The Police officials here rescued a five-month-old female infant and arrested a person, on Friday, March 5 who sold her to a woman from Karkala without proper legal procedure.

The miscreant has been identified as Ryan Derrick from Mulki. He got Rs 5 lac in exchange for selling the female infant to a woman without any actual legal adoption formalities.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar informed, “Odanadi, a Mysuru-based NGO, alerted police to the fact that a man from Dakshina Kannada is selling infants. The price of a female infant is fixed at Rs 4 lac, while the price of a male infant is fixed at Rs 6 lac. On an advance payment of Rs. 1.5 Lac the arrangement for the delivery of the Infants will be made within a month. During interrogation, it was discovered that the accused had already sold an infant for Rs 3 lac to a woman named Kavitha. The female infant was brought from Hassan.

It has come to light that Kavitha has sold the infant to one Mariam, said the police and added that they would be soon seeking police custody of the accused and will try to find if there is a case of kidnapping the infant as well.

With this nabbing, the Dakshina Kannada police have unearthed a child-trafficking network run in the name of adoption.
