Former Chairman and CEO of Karnataka Bank, Ananthakrishna passes away

Mangaluru: Succumbing to a prolonged illness, former Chairman and CEO of Karnataka Bank passed away on 11 October morning in his residence in Mangaluru.

Mr Ananthakrishna served the office of Karnataka Bank for glorious 45 years at various positions in the bank. He took over the position of Chairman and CEO in the year 2000 and continued to preside over the office for nine long years. He retired from Karnataka Bank in 2016.

Under his astute leadership, Karnataka Bank took several great strides in bringing technological advancements and keeping the bank’s functioning on par with other banks.

He pursued his bachelor’s degree in Science from St Aloysius College and acquired a Master’s degree from the reputed Mysore University.

A resident of Bantwal taluk, Mr Ananathakrishna started his career as a teacher in Deepika high school in Modankap and later taught as a lecturer in Manipal Institute of Technology. Before joining Karnataka Bank in 1971, he also worked with the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited as a Junior Programmer in Bengaluru.

During his time in the office, he was awarded many accolades; PR person of the Year in 2002, KK Pai National Banking Award, for ‘Outstanding Manager in 2004’ by Mangalore Management Association, New Year Award in 2008 honoured jointly by Academy of General Education, Rotary Club Udupi-Manipal and Syndicate Bank, and Rotary ‘4-Way Test’ Award for exemplary ethics in business and vocation.
