Foundation stone laid for new RGUHS M’luru regional centre

Mangaluru: The foundation stone for the Mangaluru Regional Centre of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) was laid on Wednesday, October 14, near Mary Hill. The foundation stone was laid by Mangaluru North MLA and Vice President of Dental Council of India, Dr Bharat Shetty.

The new regional centre will be built on a two-acre land that is next to the Department of Excise (Abakari Bhavan) office and will serve students from over 10 affiliated institutions in the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu districts.

Inaugurating the event, Dr Bharath Shetty said, “There are many of colleges in the neighbouring districts. and this regional centre will bring the RGUHS close to the students. The new regional centre will have a first-of-its-kind in the country dental research centre and will also have a simulation centre, online library, digital evaluation centre and physiotherapy rehabilitation centre.”

He added that there would also be a 250-seater auditorium for indoor sports, training and other activities.

Syndicate Member of RGUHS Dr Shiva Sharan K, who was also present for the ground breaking ceremony, said, “The Mangaluru regional centre of the RGUHS will have finance, admission and students welfare departments in order to meet the needs of the students and institutions of the region. Deputy Registrar and Assistant Registrar rank officers will be posted at the centre.”

Additional regional centres are also being planned for Davangere, Kalaburagi, and Belagavi.

Speaking about the other new regional centres, he said, “The RGUHS has also proposed the construction of a new academic building at the regional centre in Davangere. The Belagavi regional centre will have a cultural centre which will be used for the University’s cultural programmes.”
