Sullia: A man was shot down by armed miscreants, during wee hours of Thursday, October 8, at Shanthinagar in Sullia.
The man who was murdered has been identified as Sampath, a resident of Kallugundi near Shanthinagara here. He was a sand merchant.
Sampath was named as an accused in the murder of Sampaje Kalagi Balachandra, who was the Kodagu district BJP General Secretary, who was killed about one year ago.
Sampath was out on bail only a month ago. Due to his work, Sampath used to stay back at the residence of his acquaintance Ramakrishna. On Wednesday evening too Sampath had stayed back in Ramakrishna’s house.
At about 6.30 am, when Sampath left Ramakrishna’s house in his car, miscreants waylaid him. Understanding that his life was under threat, Sampath left his car and ran for life. However, the miscreants tracked him down and shot him to death.
Security has been stepped up in the area.
