Rama-Lakshmana Jodukere Kambala to be held on March 6

Mangaluru: The fourth edition of Rama-Lakshmana Jodukere Kambala will be held on Saturday, March 6 at Goldfinch City, Bangra Kulur.

Addressing media persons on Thursday, Capt Brijesh Chowta said, “Kambala is expected to attract over 100 pairs. Negilu (junior) section, Hagga (junior) section, Negilu (senior) section, Hagga (junior) section, Kane Halage, and Adda Halage will be the six categories of the event. Kane Halage, Hagga, and Negilu (senior) winners will receive two sovereigns of gold, while runners-up will receive one sovereign of gold. Similarly, the Adda Halage, Hagga, Negilu (junior) category winners will receive one sovereign of gold, while the runners-up will receive half a sovereign of gold.” 

“The managing director of MRG group, K Prakash Shetty, Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, former minister of Kannada and Culture of Karnataka C T Ravi, and district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru will be among the guests for the evening formal event. Shobha Karandlaje, Minister Aravind Limbavali, MLAs, MLCs, and others are expected to attend.”

The prize distribution ceremony will be held on March 7, which will be presided by Zilla president, Meenakshi Shanthigodu, MCC commissioner Akshay Shridhar, MUDA chairman Ravishankar Mijar and others will take part.

Drawing competition

“During the Mangaluru Kambala, we will be conducting photography and drawing competition. The ‘Colour Koota’ drawing competition will be categorized into three parts: under 10 years, 10 to 15 years, and 15 years and up, which will be a general category. We also have spot registration; a competitor will register before 10 a.m., and the competition will begin at 10 a.m.to 1 pm,” Capt Brijesh Chowta informed.

Photography competition

“The theme of the photography competition will be ‘Mangaluru Kambala.’Photographers must capture Mangaluru Kambala in images that should be less than 200 MB in size. Instagram can be used to upload photos. Mangaluru Kambala should be tagged in the images, along with the hashtag #Mangalurukambala2021. On March 6,  the pictures are taken and shared on social media. Those who are not available on social media can mail their photos to mangalurukambala@gmail.com.” he added.

Special invitation to travel and tour operators

Further, he said “We are also inviting over 40 travel and tour operators to Kambala to attract foreigners in large numbers and to create awareness of the culture of Tulunadu and the Kambala sport. They should get to experience this sport so that they include it as part of a travel plan for the tourists.”

Kambala Samithi general secretary, Sujeeth Prathap, Gunapal Kadamba, convenor, Kishore Kumar Puttur, treasurer, Preetham Rai others were present.
