Mangaluru: Karnataka’s Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) (Law & Order) Pratap Reddy visited on Tuesday 3 at the Talapady border and evaluated the security measures in place. The visit was made in the wake of tighter measures being imposed at the State’s border with Kerala due to a spike in Covid cases.
The requirement that people entering Dakshina Kannada district from Kerala must obtain RT – PCR test report from Kerala itsslf is being opposed by the activists.
ADGP collected information on increased police security and checking that were taking place here. Speaking to reporters he said, “Without a mandatory RT – PCR test shown by the people coming from Kerala, the Karnataka Government has refused to let anyone in. People can do emergency visits. If students produce their hall tickets, they would be allowed to enter. We are even testing those who arrive by train. We have opened a testing centre in Mangaluru’s Town hall. Between the two districts, there is no misunderstanding. Both the Deputy Commissioner and the District Collector and Superintendent of Police are in constant communication with each other.”
He also mentioned that this arrangement will continue until the number of cases in Kerala decreases.
The ADGP also received information from Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. V. Rajendra.
City Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar and District Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Sonawane issued strong instructions to the border patrol officers not to allow anyone enter the district without a Covid negative report.
Technical committee too has advised the State Government to impose strict actions to control increasing Covid numbers in the State.
