Mangaluru: Due to the pandemic, there is a restriction on the meeting of people and organizing events. Keeping this in mind, Mangalore Round Table and Mangalore Ladies Circle are organizing a first-of-its-kind virtual marathon in Mangaluru.
Anybody can register for the virtual marathon via the website www.bigbalipu.com. Participants can either run or walk distances of 2 kms, 5 kms, 10 kms, or 21 kms, between 5 AM on October 17 and 11 AM on October 18 at a location of their convenience. They need to track their activity using apps available for the same. Once the activity is done, the participant will have to submit details along with screenshots of the same on the form provided on our website. The participants will receive an e-certificate and a shiny medal for their efforts.
The proceeds from the event will go towards the renovation of Karunya Special School in Malpe, Udupi. The school is currently functioning out of an old building in Udupi and due to an increase in the student strength, they are moving to a new location that needs to be renovated to bring it up to the standard and cater to the special needs’ children.
Mangalore Round Table 115 (MRT115) is part of Round Table India (RTI) is an organization of non-political and non-sectarian young men between the age group of 18 and 40. The aim of the young men is to promote service, fellowship and goodwill in national and international affairs.
Mangalore Ladies Circle 82 (MLC82) is part of Ladies Circle India and consists of Wife’s of Tablers. They have their own fundraisers and projects apart from collaborating with the Mangalore Round Table. In the past MRT115 and MLC82 have contributed towards the school fees for children, provided grocery kits to the needy during the recent lock down, built classrooms and toilet blocks in govt schools, donated furniture and renovated classrooms in govt schools.
