Mangaluru: Volunteerism is a process. Amazing results can be achieved if we involve in this, but volunteerism should evolve within ourselves, said Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya.
He spoke after inaugurating International Volunteers Day celebrations organized by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangalore, Youth Red Cross Society of Mangalore University, Centre for Integrated Learning, and Mangalore Surf Club, at Ravindra Kalabhavana of University College Mangaluru on Saturday. “COVID-19- 19 pandemic has taught the lesson of the spirit of volunteerism and optimism. Now we know that we should be universally compassionate and we have to repay the debt towards society. We should motivate young minds towards volunteerism,” he added.
Presiding over the function, Indian Red Cross Society District Chairman Shantharam Shetty congratulated all the Red Cross volunteers who served during the pandemic, especially during the lockdown period taking a risk. He also explained the plans of IRC for the coming three months.
University College Mangaluru Principal Dr. A Harisha, Centre for Integrated Learning Executive Director Sachitha Nandagopal, Nehru Yuva Kendra District Youth Coordinator Raghuveer Souterpet, Mangalore University Red Cross Nodal Officer Dr. Ganapathi Gowda, Youth Red Cross District Coordinator Sacheth Suvarna was present among others.
The stage program was followed by presentations by Nithin Vas of ‘Paper Seed’, Environmentalist Jeeth Milan Rosche, Mangalore Surf Club President Mithun Bhat Kakunje, and others who shared their opinions, and a panel discussion was held. Senior Journalist and CIL Co-Founder Srinivasan Nandagopal moderated the event. Students from various colleges participated.
