
Mangaluru police seize 119 kg ganja in major drug bust
In a significant crackdown, the Mangaluru CCB police apprehended four individuals for smuggling 119 kg of cannabis.
The arrested suspects include Mohiudeen Shabbir (38) from Kasaragod, Mahesh Dwarakanath Pandey (30) from Thane, Ajay Krishnan (30) from Kerala, and Jeevan Singh (35) from Haryana.
Based on intelligence inputs, officers intercepted an Alto car and a tempo within Konaje Police Station limits. Upon inspection, 34 kg of ganja was recovered from the Alto, while a staggering 85 kg was unearthed from the 407 vehicle. The contraband was cleverly hidden in 40 fish trays. The vehicles bore Andhra Pradesh and Kerala registrations.
Investigations revealed that the gang was ferrying the narcotics from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala. Shabbir, the prime accused, is a repeat offender with 12 cases against him, spanning charges of homicide, drug smuggling, cattle theft, and violations under the Arms Act. He had previously been caught with 23 kg of ganja.
Ajay Krishnan faces six criminal charges, while Mahesh Pandey was earlier arrested for trafficking 200 kg of ganja. Jeevan Singh was previously caught in possession of 65 kg of the substance at different police stations.
Authorities continue their probe to track further links in the illegal trade.
