Mangaluru– A landslip at Doddathappale in Sakleshpur taluk, Hassan district, caused major disruption to vehicular movement on National Highway 75—the crucial link between Bengaluru and Mangaluru—on the night of Monday, June 16.
Sources indicated that the unscientific hill cutting during the road widening process likely triggered the landslip. The affected stretch lies within the Shiradi Ghat section, a region prone to such incidents in recent years.
As a result, many vehicles were stranded for hours, unable to move through the debris-laden road. Commuters faced long delays, especially during the night when the incident occurred.
By Tuesday morning, June 17, local authorities succeeded in clearing the debris and restoring traffic flow. Earthmovers and emergency response teams worked overnight to open up the blocked highway.
The incident has renewed concerns over hill stability and road safety in the Shiradi Ghat region, where similar landslides have occurred frequently due to fragile terrain and inadequate slope management.
