The Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) learnt about a Press Release issued by the President of CAMPCO quoting one of our faculty members from the Research Centre who is conducting a study on “in vitro anticancer potential properties in arecanut” which was given wide publicity in both press and media.

In pursuance of the same, we enquired with the concerned faculty member regarding the same. It is found that our researcher had an informal conversation with the President of CAMPCO, at which time this preliminary study report was shared with him. It was also noted that the research is still in the initial stage and was conducted on minimal samples and is highly inadequate to conclude that the arecanut has anticancer properties. Hence Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) does not concur with the views expressed by the author of the said report as the sample size is highly inadequate and therefore no reliance can be placed on the same. It is further clarified that neither Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) nor Yenepoya Research Centre has issued any official communication to CAMPCO about the issue of such report. CAMPCO has not sought our prior approval before issuing the said note to the Press and Media. We have not entered into any understanding with CAMPCO for any such newspaper publication nor do we have any association with them in this regard.

This note is issued by Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) for clarification on the matter to the public.
