
‘Marco’ Strikes Gold at the Box Office with ₹14.20 Crore Opening Weekend
The Malayalam action thriller Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni and starring Unni Mukundan, has taken the domestic box office by storm, earning ₹14.20 crore in its opening weekend.
According to Sacnilk, the film kicked off with ₹4.3 crore on Friday, largely due to its strong Malayalam-speaking audience. Saturday saw an 8.14% growth with ₹4.65 crore, followed by a stellar Sunday collection of ₹5.25 crore. With a production budget of ₹30 crore, the film’s opening weekend shows promise of recovery, fueled by high occupancy rates ranging from 70% to 83% on its third day. Evening shows peaked at 83.62%.
Key hubs like Kochi and Chennai contributed significantly, reporting 88.5% and 89% occupancy, respectively. Kollam stole the show with nearly full houses, boasting an extraordinary 97% occupancy during night shows. Cities like Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Kottayam also showcased impressive audience turnout.
Beyond Kerala, results varied. Bengaluru and Hyderabad posted strong numbers with 68.75% and 75.75% occupancy, respectively. However, metros like Mumbai (52.67%) and NCR (36%) showed more subdued performances.
Marco delves into a gripping narrative of vengeance within the gold trade, highlighting betrayal and familial loss. The movie, shot over 100 days, further cements Unni Mukundan’s reputation as a versatile star known for hits like Mikhael and his award-winning production Meppadiyan.
With its promising start, Marco is set to further captivate audiences in the coming weeks.
