Mangalore: The Karnataka High Court has on January 3, Friday dismissed an appeal made by the Manipal College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, against the directive of the MESCOM to pay a  whopping Rs 3.40 crore penalty for  using  electricity unauthorisedly through an extension from the KMC.

It may be recalled here that the unauthorised act came to light during a raid by MESCOM Vigilance Squad at the hospital on December 9 following a complaint by Hanef Saheb, an RTI activist. The raid revealed that the Dental College though was paying its electricity bill regularly, was at the same time using power connection umnauthorisedly from KMC. When the Mescom slapped a penalty of Rs 3.40 crore, the College had moved the  High Court which has now ruled in favour of the Mescom.
