Protest against gas pipeline project at Kaikamba today

Mangalore: The Mangalore-Hassan-Mysore- Solooru Gas Pipeline Yojane Virodhi Horata Samithi  has strongly opposed the proposed project and has alleged that it only intended at cheating the people.

The Samithi  will also be taking out a protest rally from Kaikamba to the village office on January 7, Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the forum members and the residents of Mogaru, Kaikamba, Kandavara, Malali, Maravooru, Adyapadi have said that the project would hit hard around  600 to 700 families in these villages.

Krishna Prasad Rai, the convenor of the Samiti said that Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) wants to lay the pipeline in six metre width path for the purpose.”We have submitted detailed letter that contains 35 points  highlighting the adverse consequences of the project.

Moreover it is also known that the state government has initiated a survey and as per the Land Acquisition Act, 1993, residential land with schools and religious centres cannot be acquired for this purpose, he added.
