The play gathered the attention of a massive crowd across the city.

The educated Mangalorean youngsters were on full swing as they acted it out to vent their inner feelings about the disastrous project.

The street play focused on various issues of Netravathi river diversion such as ecological imbalances, water scarcity, and migration of farmers, deforestation and threat to biodiversities.

Several slogans echoed during the street play: ‘Be fair for green care, save Netravathi save life’, ‘Let Neravathi flows as it flows and our land our river’

“I am proud to see the Mangalorean youth taking this issue forward in spite of all the infringement on freedom of expression. Their willingness to raise voice for almost 40 lakh people, whose life is dependent on river Netravathi requires much appreciation,” said Juby Thomas, assistant professor at St Aloysius College.

“Mangalorean youths’ high spirit showcased at the street play, by bringing the traditional folklore shows their social commitment and definitely it is an alarming warning to the political and governing fraternity,” she added.

Several activists from the city extended their support to the youngsters’ initiation to save Netravathi by gracing the occasion with their presence.
