Govt mulling ban on astrology programmes on TV

Bengaluru: State government is mulling to ban astrology on TV shows which is spreading folly and unreasonableness, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on Monday.

Farmer suicides: CM to waive interest on agriculture loans?-1Speaking after inaugurating a programme in the city, the CM said that early in the morning, every day, TV channels telecast these shows that spread superstition or untruth.

“Rituals like Madesnana rituals involve people from lower caste rolling on the plantain leaves left by upper caste people after their meal. There is a deliberate attempt to continue this ritual which is silly. Dalits and lower caste people should be aware about it. Today, early morning TV channels telecast shows on astrology which women sit and watch, leaving behind important work at home,” he said expressing concern.

The people gathered at the programme also urged that these programmes which exploit people in the name of astrology, witchcraft and rituals be stopped. The CM then assured to ban these programmes.
