Mysuru: Everyone is familiar with anti corruption movement leader Anna Hazare who brought about revolutionary changes at his village Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra. There are many such people working in similar lines though not in limelight like Hazare. They carry out their works in selfless manner and try to bring about transformation in their surrounding by their own efforts. Such changes help in making the world we live a better one.
One such revolutionary is SJ Shobha Ramesh, an Anganawadi (Play home) worker at Bekya Village in Kampalapura Hobli of Mysuru district. The government started Anganawadis’ for the welfare of children to provide early education and quality nutritious food which is vital in early childhood phase. Though the government is keen on improving the conditions of these child care centers, the commitment by the workers is very important to bring about radical changes in the early education system. Shobha Ramesh has succeeded to a great extent in executing government schemes for little children welfare and is a role model for others working in similar conditions. Due to her efforts the centre has grabbed wide attention from several corners and billed as the model centre and best among many in the district.

In the year 2004-05 the centre the Anganwdadi was established with a building of its own. The centre has progressed under Shobha who took charge from Meenakshi in the year 2010-11. Children used to return home after playing in muddy surroundings as the centre lacked basic infrastructure.

Determined to develop the centre she approached many for help to improve the basic infrastructure which she felt is vital for the centre’s overall development. The water and sanitation committee in the village came forwards to assist her and arranged play home items and provided few other important equipment. Slides, Swing sets, climbers, outdoor and indoor toys help children in early learning and makes their stay comfortable at the centre. Many parents are attracted by centre’s development and look forward to enroll their children as and when the opportunity arises.

Appreciating Shobha’s efforts the district child welfare department has honored her with the best Anganawadi teacher for the year 2015-16 along with cash prize.

In addition she is actively involved in social welfare activities in the villages. She has started few women self help groups one specifically meant for dairy development. She has helped many rural women in getting loans from banks and financial institutions for dairy development at micro level in the village thereby improving villagers overall living conditions. Taking assistance from companies she constructed school block and helped in getting drinking water through a hand operated pump.

Little children enjoy their stay at play home and return home happily at the end of the day. Is there a better sight to watch than beaming children walking and running in unison to school and back home?
