Date : 08-10-2017

Dharwad: It is essential to adopt proper food processing techniques to reduce the quantity of post-harvest losses particularly that of food grains, said D P Biradar, Vice Chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad.

Inaugurating a two-day national conference on “Food Process Engineering Technology”, organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), Dharwad Local Centre, Biradar said in countries like India where agriculture is the major vocation, it is required that value addition is taken up for agricultural produce.

“Value addition is to be done by employing modern engineering and technology approaches. Food processing and the corresponding technology is to be given due importance,” he said.

“Such new technologies should also be made easily accessible at affordable prices to the small and medium farmers who otherwise find it difficult and impossible to invest in such technologies,” he said.

IEI DLC Chairman M Narayan presided over.
