Bengaluru: The Karnataka Assembly on Monday February 14 paid tribute to legendary playback singer and Bharat Ratna awardee Lata Mangeshkar.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in the Assembly that words fall short of describing Lataji’s personality.

“Lata Mangeshkar was a special creation of God. Saraswati’s purity flowed from her voice. With her mesmerizing voice, she would bring the lyrics to life in such a way that the song would be etched in the listener’s mind forever,” CM said.

Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah paid tribute to Mangeshkar, saying the Bharat Ratna recipient was an unmatched singer who had become a living legend by singing over 30,000 songs. “She sang over 10,000 Hindi songs and lent her voice to songs in 36 different languages,” he added.

He praised Mangeshkar’s ability to put emotion into her songs, claiming that Aye Mere Vatan Ke Logon, a tribute to soldiers who died during the 1962 Sino-India war, brought tears to the eyes of then-Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The Aassembly also paid tribute to Former Minister and Former Chief Secretary J. Alexander, Former MLA M. M. Sajjan, Former Minister H. B. Patil, Professor Chandrashekhar Patil, religious orator Ibrahim Sutar, and Justice K. L. Manjunath.
