Mangaluru: Minister for Kannada and Culture V. Sunil Kumar on Saturday February 27 said that he would submit a proposal to the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on renaming the Lady Goschen Hospital after Rani Abbakka.
As the country is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, it is the right time for the hospital to be renamed. It is our responsibility to create awareness on leaders who fought against foreign rulers among generation next, he stressed.
He rejected the view that renaming would create controversy. Tracing the history, he said the hospital was established as maternity hospital in 1848, and was renamed in 1900s after Lady Goschen, wife of Governor of the then Madras Residency George Joachim Goschen.
