Vijayanagara: In Indian culture, water occupies the first place among the five elements and every citizen has to take a resolve to conserve water, said Union Minister for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi and added that otherwise there will be water crisis in the coming days.

Speaking after inaugurating the National Seminar on Indian Thoughts on Sujalam- Jalatattva at Kannada University here, she said that the country has had a tradition of worshipping nature since time immemorial. Water life can be protected only if a culture of accepting water with a feeling of motherhood is developed, she noted.

“Starting from eating we are using plastic for everything. Many of the substances that cause damage to the environment are harmful to rivers. This will lead to water scarcity in the coming days. She also said that all of us have to be careful and use water sparingly and maintain cleanliness of the rivers of the State.
