Mangaluru: MLA Kamath lays foundation stone for retaining wall works

Mangaluru: The foundation stone was laid on Monday February 6 for the construction of a retaining wall of the main Raja Canal in 56th Mangaladevi Ward in Shivanagar area, which meets 56th Mangaladevi Ward and 46th Cantonment Ward of Mangaluru City Corporation. Mangaluru South MLA B. Vedavyas Kamath laid the foundation stone.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that with the special initiative of Corporator and Former Mayor Premananda Shetty of Ward 56, Corporator and Former Mayor Diwakar of Ward 46, works are being taken up to solve the problems of the people of the area.

Works worth Rs 1.75 Crore for the construction of the retaining wall and Rs. 25 lakh for the road – works worth a total of Rs. 2 Crore will be carried out here. The retaining wall work is being carried out to prevent rainwater from entering the houses. It is committed to alleviate the sufferings of the locals.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Minor Irrigation Minister J. C. Madhuswamy have sanctioned a total grant of Rs. 100 Crore to prevent artificial floods in Mangaluru City.

MLA Kamath said that steps are being taken to solve the problems during the rainy season in the City using this grant.

The work is being carried out at a fast pace with the cooperation of all.

The MLA said that the problem of flood water entering the area will be reduced to a great extent during the next monsoon season.
