Yenepoya DSW inaugurates Rural camp at Kinya panchayat

Mangaluru: A three-day rural camp for the MSW students was inaugurated under the aegis of the Department of Social Work of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) in collaboration with Kinya grama panchayat at Kinya on Feb 06, 23.

Lakshmi president of Kinya panchayat inaugurated the camp by unveiling the rural camp poster. Kinya Jamath Committee president Mr Ismail and District Ayush Officer Dr Mohammad Iqbal released the handbills on ‘Solid waste management’ and ‘Say No to Plastic’ published by the Kinya panchayath and Department of Social Work.

Vishwanath Bailmoole, PDO gave details of the proposed solid waste management plan of the panchayat which will be implemented in the month of March. No plastic campaign is a step towards this direction he opined. Dr Mohammad Iqbal highlighted the challenges faced in plastic waste management and called for community participation in the successful management of the programme.  Ismail, president of the Kinya mosque committee and Nazeer, member of the grama panchayat also spoke.

Dr Irene Veigas, Coordinator of the rural camp, gave a brief on the objectives and activities of s rural camp. She said this year’s theme for the camp is ‘Say No to Plastic’ and during the three days, the social work students in collaboration with the panchayat will be involved in the awareness campaign and expected to reach the message to one thousand families.  Head of the social work department Dr Mohammed Guthigar, Associate professor Dr Gladys Colaco, panchayat vice president Maimuna, Golden Welfare Association president Moosa, Al Ameen charitable organization president Abbas, Ukkuda school betterment committee president Ahmed Bawa and Sheika Markaz president Abubakkar, panchayat members, ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers were present during the program. 

Nasreen and Mainaz JRFs welcomed and proposed a vote of thanks. Deeksha MSW student compeered the program.
