Karnataka BJP Protesters Bring Buffaloes to DC Office

Demand Release of Milk Producers’ Incentives

Belagavi: BJP protesters made a bold statement outside the Belagavi DC office, bringing along buffaloes to highlight their frustration with the state government’s delay in releasing Rs 716 crore in incentives owed to milk producers. Led by the party’s state vice-president Anila Benake, the demonstration emphasized the pressing need for funds crucial to the livelihoods of dairy farmers.

Chants condemning the Congress government and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah echoed as protesters marched from Channamma Circle to the DC office, wielding milk cans as symbols of discontent. They decried the cancellation of pro-farmer schemes initiated during the BJP’s tenure and emphasized the adverse impact of government policies on both people and livestock.

BJP Leader Anil Benake alleged that under the BJP’s governance, the dairy sector flourished, with daily milk collection averaging between 80 to 85 lakh liters from 26 lakh farmers. Former CM Yeddyurappa’s administration incentivized milk producers, resulting in enhanced production levels. However, since the Congress government took power, promised incentives have not been released, leading to a decline in milk production by 10 lakh liters. BJP leaders demanded the immediate release of pending drought relief funds to alleviate farmer distress.

The protest turned tumultuous as BJP workers attempted to besiege the Congress office, prompting police intervention. Tensions escalated, resulting in a brief scuffle between police and demonstrators. Anil Benake criticized the Congress government’s handling of farmer-related issues, particularly in light of recent controversies surrounding statements made by DK Suresh. He accused the government of diverting attention from its failures by freezing funds allocated through schemes like Kisan Samman, designed to support agriculturalists. Benake criticized the government’s perceived reluctance to acknowledge funds received from the central government, alleging misplaced priorities and governance shortcomings.
