Ramakrishna Mission President Swami Smaranananda Maharaj Dies At 95

Kolkata: Swami Smaranananda Maharaj, the esteemed leader of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, passed away in Kolkata on Monday evening at the age of 95 due to age-related ailments, as announced by the mission in an official statement. He assumed the presidency of the order in 2017 and is set to be cremated at Belur Math on Tuesday.

His health had been under care at a hospital in south Kolkata managed by the Mission. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second visit to Bengal this year on March 5, he visited the hospital to inquire about Swami Smaranananda Maharaj’s well-being.

Following his demise, Prime Minister Modi expressed his condolences in a message on a platform, praising Swami Smaranananda Maharaj’s lifelong dedication to spirituality and service, emphasizing his profound impact on numerous individuals. He reminisced about his personal interactions with Swami Smaranananda Maharaj, recalling a visit to Belur Math in 2020 and a recent hospital visit in Kolkata.

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, also extended her condolences, acknowledging Swami Smaranananda Maharaj’s significant spiritual leadership and his role as a source of comfort for millions of devotees worldwide.

Additionally, JP Nadda, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, expressed deep sadness over Swami Smaranananda Maharaj’s passing, offering heartfelt condolences to his followers and devotees.
